Plan Your Journey Around the Island’s Rhythms
Sri Lanka is a year-round destination — but with two monsoon seasons affecting different parts of the island at different times, knowing when to visit each region will help you get the most out of your trip.
At Expeditions of Sri Lanka, we tailor itineraries so you can enjoy sunshine, festivals, and the best seasonal experiences, no matter when you arrive.
Sri Lanka’s Two Monsoon Patterns
Sri Lanka’s climate is influenced by two main monsoon winds, which bring rain to different coasts at different times:
1 Southwest Monsoon (May–September)
- Brings rain to: South & West Coasts, Hill Country
- Best weather for: East Coast (Trincomalee, Pasikuda, Arugam Bay)
2 Northeast Monsoon (October–January)
- Brings rain to: North & East Coasts/li>
- Best weather for: South & West Coasts (Colombo, Galle, Mirissa, Bentota)
